Book Review

We had received a book from Booksneeze ages ago. I had my son work through it as part of school. It took months for him to read each chapter and write a summary. I waited for him to finish so I could post his review. Well, since then, we've moved, finally located the book and his narrations and now I am finally posting his review. Unfortunately because it took long long to review, and since Booksneeze has changed some policies, I cannot get into my account to properly post a review.
So I will just go ahead and post the review on here only. Hopefully it helps someone out there and it was a really good experience for my son anyway.

DON’T CHECK YOU’R BRAINS AT THE DOOR

Rating: 8.5    Reason: Some of the chapters I did not do because the content was not suitable for me.

This book is a good book. It talks a lot about questions and ideas that really make you think. Some of the content is for older kids. So I recommend it to everyone thirteen and up. When I was doing this book I would write about the chapter in a notebook. One of my favorite chapters is chapter eight, were it talks about how we always imagine Jesus having white skin when it really was darker because he was jewish. This book is also split into sections. The first is myths about God and the second is myths about Jesus. The third is myths about the Bible, then the resurrection and then Religion and Christianity. The last is about life and happiness.

Billy Graham in quotes - review

Billy Graham in Quotes

From what I know since becoming a Christian, Billy Graham is solid. I have yet to read a book of his, so I thought in choosing Billy Graham in Quotes for review would be a step into grasping his thoughts and words upon God's word.

Upon receiving and gingerly reading through this book it exceeded my expectations. I expected a lower number of pages and thinner presence. The paperback binding is solid with a heavy weight cover. It seemed loaded with quotes but not too much that it's overwhelming for the average person. I appreciate the *Forward and *Introduction by Franklin and Billy Graham, where humble and thankful words are expressed. The chunks are light and the book is very practical for even an older child or teen to catch wisdom from. I appreciate the lay out, which makes sense. The writings are split into alphabetical topics, much like the concordance section in the back of some bibles. So for example, going to the table of *Contents; if I want to read what Billy Graham has said about Evangelism I could just flip to page 127 and read a piece of scripture related to and also Graham's quotes underneath. The very back of the book includes *Notes, in which each quote is sited or been taken from. In this section you also see the dates as well and the dates bare the span of Graham's ministry, which I value.

Scripture is to be dissected and eaten up like treasure. These quotes are small in words but big in truth. They challenge you to dig deeper into God's word and deeper into what you seek from God. Billy Graham has gone before me and more or less a teacher of sorts. I value the open nature of his heart, the encouraging sensitivity and sincerity to God's spirit in capturing the essence of God in his experience. He has gained wisdom and understanding from the Lord and through this book, I'm able to come back to it again and again in my times of reflection and study.

This book will make a great addition to the reference section of our book shelf in our home. We home school and my oldest who is currently eleven years old could soon be picking up this book. As it is helpful and again, easy to navigate for a handy reference if need be.

Book Review - What in the World is Going on?

I've decided to start reviewing books on my blog. My first book arrived which I immediately flipped through and dug into. That was the first day. Day two and after, I hadn't seen much of it, though I was not concerned in the least because my loving husband devoured it.
The book which was sent for review is :

Heard of it?
Well I listen periodically to Dr. Jeremiah on Focus on the Family radio. So I thought reading what he had to say about end times might be interesting.
My husband had read spit-its to me at bed time and I loved listening to the enthusiasm in his voice as he read.

As a Christian of 8 years. I'd like to think of myself as a person with average knowledge of end times. So, what I think. It's concise and to the point. It's logical, no fancy jargon, which is excellent for the average person like me. After reading the book, I had a better understanding of the history and the influences related the our present day and future.
The most important part of this book is the education factor. People are deceived and Christians are deceived as well. As a people, a nation under God we don't know our history well enough. This is a very important issue concerning parenting especially. If our children are to grow up in this world, inherit it after we pass; What are they going to hold on to as truth? This book tackles lies that are very wide spread.
Many a Christian seem to not have any care of their future, many seem to care but are confused and double-minded. Dr. Jeremiah resolves confusion and destroys lies from the enemy with the word of God. He includes many historical events to explain our current state in the world and biblical events and prophesy to explain our future. The book puts to rest fears and doubts that even though there is a known coming of age where earth's people dwell in turmoil, there is a hope greater; JESUS CHRIST.
A quote that struck a cord in me:
We can easily see and resist the effects of jihad in militant terrorism but we have trouble seeing and resisting the mere subtle strategy that the Muslims call fatah. Fatah is infiltration, moving into a country in numbers large enough to affect the culture. It means taking advantage of tolerant laws and accommodative policies to insert the influence of Islam. in places where a military invasion will not succeed, the slow systematic, and unrelenting methods of fatah are conquering whole nations.
from What in the World is Going on? Dr. David Jeremiah
This reminds me of God's constant reminders and discipline of His people in the Old Testament of the Bible. The people were warned over and over not to mix with other nations, not to marry their women, to destroy their high places, etc. Look at Samuel as an example of this.
Overall, this is a book that will stay on our shelf. My children will also use this book as a type of reference to acquire better knowledge of their current and future world.
